The Legend Will Never Die

Posted : 2 years, 3 months ago on 19 August 2022 03:51 (A review of SoulCalibur)

I bought a Dreamcast just so I could play this, such is my belief that it is one of the finest software lines that Namco have. I had never played Soul Calibur in my life, but knowing full well that Soul Blade STILL IS one of the best beat-em-ups about, I knew I could not go wrong. And after spending £200 just to play it, did I feel cheated? OF COURSE NOT. This game has never failed to impress anyone who plays it, and everytime I load it up, I still can't believe how much detail and effort is packed into it. The graphics, music score, characters, artwork, control system, moves, extra features, EVERYTHING is so perfectly crafted, it makes me shudder when people place Tekken above this. If it was just style over content, I could understand it. But this game has everything, and it has in truckloads. If you only ever buy one beat-em-up, for God's sake buy this.

One of the best fighting games you'll ever play.

Posted : 2 years, 3 months ago on 19 August 2022 03:42 (A review of Tekken 5)

After disappointing fans world wide with the gameplay changes in tekken 4, It must have been pretty clear to the development team about what action to take for the next tekken installment : make every one happy again! And by that i mean take the game back to when it was at its very best- when their were juggle combos and a noticeable lack of gravity .

Well, making every one happy is exactly what namco did with tekken 5 and it has paid off beautifully-Tekken 5 is one of the greatest fighting games ever made ,its the beat em up equivalent to heaven .

Tekken 5 has it all- beautiful graphics, easy to learn/hard to master gameplay, a genuine sense of reward and a collection of well balanced characters -all unique in their own way .It even has arcade perfect versions of tekken 1,2,3 and starblade as unlocakble games that you can play at your own leisure! Honestly , you'll feel spoiled playing it.

The only problem with the game is its awful 3rd person adventure mode ,"the devil within"- an incredibly tedious mode of play in which jin wonders around drab halls and corridors solving boring puzzles and fighting hordes of uninteresting opponents. Hopefully the next games attempt at a value increasing bonus game mode will be lot better.

Thankfully though the devil within doesn't over shadow the absolute greatness of Tekken 5- one of the best beat em ups you'll ever play .

Awesome fighting game

Posted : 2 years, 3 months ago on 19 August 2022 03:28 (A review of Super Smash Bros.)

Everyone's favorite N64 characters battle it out where anything goes. The game features the best of Nintendo: Mario, Luigi, Link, Yoshi, Fox McCloud, Pikachu and Captain Falcon. They even bring back the old favorites: Samus and Kirby. They sneak in Jigglypuff as well. It's fun to play as the Nintendo characters in a fighting game, rather than the Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat characters. It's refreshing. This is a great game.

Soul Calibur.....3!

Posted : 2 years, 3 months ago on 19 August 2022 03:23 (A review of SoulCalibur III)

Soul Calibur is more solid than it ever was... with the new character creation, and the bad-ass chronicle of the sword mode on the home version.

The arcade version is more complete, even though the character roster is smaller than the home version, this version is definitely the more pretty of the two, eliminating all of the "goofy/unrealistic" fighting styles found in the home version. If you were in any way disappointed with the home version, or perhaps thought it was "too much," you might find a much more likable and straight forward game of Soul Calibur in the arcade. Think you have what it takes to become a Legend?

The best video game in history.

Posted : 2 years, 3 months ago on 19 August 2022 03:20 (A review of Tekken 3)

No game, fighting or otherwise, has ever touched the majesty and depth of Tekken 3. The improvements on Tekken 2 are palpable, adding side-stepping and a much needed, flowing, 3D element. The characters become part of your life as you play the game, with countless holds, throws and special moves. I own a Playstation simply to play this game. Once you have fully understood the depth of the game, and have friends who have attained a similar level, the game becomes inexhaustible, continuing to set new boundaries of skill, knowledge and timing. Buy a Playstation. Buy this game. It's as simple as that.

A fighting game with almost everything!

Posted : 2 years, 3 months ago on 19 August 2022 03:17 (A review of SoulCalibur II)

It is relief to finally play a classic fighter for the Gamecube (besides "Godzilla: Destroy all Monster"). This is a well deserved sequel to the wonderful first Dreamcast/Arcade game. Soul Caliber II is a fighter with just about everything:

Pretty girls, Lizardmen, neat diverse weapons, shapeshifters, and special guest stars for each system (I prefer Link the most ^_~).

The only flaw was is that some of the character endings did not make that much sense. Makes you think more though, huh.

However, SCII is a classic like it's first game!

RATINGS: 9.9 out of 10!

Is there no end to this awesomeness?

Posted : 2 years, 3 months ago on 19 August 2022 03:14 (A review of Super Smash Bros. Brawl)

No. There is no end.

And Yes, the game even allows you to use gamecube controllers, so all of you who've got the recession on your mind can enjoy brawl. actually, thats how i've been enjoying brawl for 2 weeks now. It's much more fun to play brawl with controllers rather than the Wiimote.

Smash Bros Brawl is a fighting Game for the Nintendo Wii. the Object is to take control of one of Nintendo's mascots, and battle it out on a themed stage to see who can get the most Ko's or be the sole survivor of a stock battle. the person who survives, or scores the most points is the winner. The players can use items such as Laser Swords, Ray guns, Huge hammers, and pokeballs to ensure victory, and when things seem hopeless, the player might be lucky enough to get the final smash attack as it floats across the screen, just waiting to be used. what is it? it's an epic move that will cause the player to do something related to his or her game. for example, Samus fires off a humongous beam of light from her laser cannon, Starfox gets into a landmaster and devastates everybody on the screen, and Mr. Game and Watch turns into an octopus of death.

Here's a History lesson for those who don't game as much as I do. Super Smash Bros dates back to 1999, with the original Super Smash bros on the Nintendo 64 console. Originally, the game was exclusive to japan, and nearly didn't see the shores of north America. the game wasn't popular in japan, so Nintendo was taking a big chance bringing the title to north America (i don't think it was a big chance, considering America's love of violence) but when they did, the game became a best seller! Soon, kids all over the states were smash attacking Mario and his friends into hyperspace with Baseball bats, unleashing Pokémon with pokeballs, and fighting what might be the best boss ever in a video game...the Master hand. overall, with 4 player battles, SSB kept college students from doing homework, and kids having sleepovers, just without any sleep (believe me, i saw it. i was so tired for Friday night basketball the next day.)

2 years later, Nintendo brought the smash bros game into the 6th gen, as Super smash Bros: Melee. with many improvements, extra characters i didn't even know about (and many other 11 year old boys for that matter) came to the mêlée, all with special abilities and techniques. this was the first time us North Americans were introduced to Marth and Roy, the fire emblem Characters. this also introduced me to Mr. Game and Watch, which i never actually knew the full story about until about 3 days ago. Screwattack.com put this game at number 4 of their best gamecube games of all time list, stating "If you don't own mêlée, you don't own a gamecube."

Finally, After teasing and Teasing us gamers for about a year, Super Smash Bros Brawl finally hit the shelves in 2008. Even to this day, the game is constantly sold out at future shop, gamestops, and EB games. it's that popular. Bringing extra little things, like the coin launcher, Wi-fi, and 3rd party characters, brawl is the ultimate party game. but light triton, what 3rd party characters are involved? Uh, Solid Snake from Metal Gear Solid, and..

"Woah, woah, Since when is Solid Snake going to be in a Mario-related game? the 2 haven't made contact before!"

Tis true, reader. But the man behind Metal Gear Solid (Hideo Kojima) Practically Begged Shigeru Miyamoto, Mario's Creator, To put Solid Snake in the game. Being that game programmers and creators have an honourable respect for each other, (unlike Sega and Nintendo in the early 1990s) Solid Snake was in the game. And speaking of Sega, Guess who else comes to the brawl?

Thats right. Sonic...the hedgehog.

That has been a gamer's wish since 1991. to See Sega's mascot, and Nintendo's mascot go one on one and whoop some ass.

But let me tell you something about sonic, and a few other characters. Trying to control Mario is like driving the family corolla. easy-going, and simple. Donkey Kong is like a Dodge ram truck, slow, but strong. Pikachu is like a little Suzuki swift, quick, but little, and sonic? He's like trying to control an Alfa Romeo Schigera.

Yes. He's that Fast. No Blast Processing Needed. and i'm not even mentioning how things get more like a Light-Speed Symphony of Destruction when sonic gets the final smash.

Bottom line, Kids, Play this game. Teenagers, play this game. Senior citizens, play this game, Jack Thompson, play this game. Parents, This game isn't as violent as it seems! you should play it too! forget blowing $99.99 on Wii fit, just go and get Super Smash Bros: Brawl. I guarantee you will not be Craigslisting it in a month.

10/10

Super "Smash"? Try Super CHARGED!

Posted : 2 years, 3 months ago on 19 August 2022 03:09 (A review of Super Smash Bros. Melee)

The absolute first thing you'll notice about this game is how it surpasses all PlayStation 2 gaming graphics (yes, all of them!). The backgrounds are real, three dimensional places, rather then being several different backgrounds that shift to give it a three dimensional feeling.

The second thing you'll notice is that this game is HUGE. It has nearly four times more than its N64 counterpart, especially when it comes to characters.

The third thing you'll find is that all the characters generally have the same moves. Almost nothing has changed, although some characters have new moves that are more powerful than their old ones.

The music is excellent! You will not believe how good the orchestrated musical remixes are of Super Mario Bros., Super Mario 64, Star Fox, Star Fox 64, and Kirby's All-Star. Nor will you believe how well the guitar remixes sound of Metroid, F-Zero, and more! If there is a soundtrack, it is a must have.

The only disappointing thing about this game is the frustration factor. Near-impossible enemies at level nine seem to "cheese" more than fight. Their attacks overpower your "smash" attacks, which we know should not happen.

Besides that, this is one of Nintendo's BEST EVER and a game for all to enjoy! It's violent to a point. Instead of knocking out your opponent or even killing him, you must only knock them off the battlefield.

So it's obvious. Get the game if you loved the original Super Smash Bros.! You'll hardly be disappointed.

A Milestone in Gaming History

Posted : 2 years, 3 months ago on 19 August 2022 03:05 (A review of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim)

I have been playing video games for almost 20 years now. I have played games in every category imaginable and have had countless favorites over the years.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim surpasses all of these with flying colors.

It is a giant play place. A beautifully crafted sandbox filled to the brim with HUNDREDS of hours of action, dialogue and epic quests. You will climb the highest mountains, crawl the deepest dungeons, wield the greatest weapons and fight the mightiest creatures.

The game is gorgeous. It's landscapes, cities and towns are lush and vibrant with detail.

Skyrim features professional voice acting talent by greats such as Michael Hogan, Joan Allen and Max von Sydow.

Skyrim's main storyline is but a mere fraction of its content and you will easily find yourself enraptured in it's fantastical world; unable to break away as you pour your time into it almost unwillingly.

It is simply marvelous. Words do not do it justice.

Fallout New Vegas Review

Posted : 2 years, 3 months ago on 19 August 2022 02:58 (A review of Fallout: New Vegas)

Pros:
Great story, perhaps better than 3's
Interesting characters
Some new additions to gameplay (sights, mods)
Deep expansive open world
Less drab graphics than 3's
Great RPG elements
Multiple factions

Cons:
Not allot of differentiation from 3
Still can't explore after completing game
Graphics still look pretty bad

Verdict: Fallout NV is sort of a Fallout 3.5, but it is still great game to play that improves on a number of things. Still a good game.

8 /10.
