Best Metal Gear yet! (no spoilers)

Posted : 2 years, 4 months ago on 17 July 2022 12:57 (A review of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain)

Once you are dropped into the game, you are treated to beautiful cinematics and mystery. Even if you have played all of the games in the series, there is a lot of mystery and confusion. The game does a great job at revealing its story, and filling the past games' plot holes and "now I know now" moments.

The game-play of The Phantom Pain is more fluent and dense than any other in the series. From the facial animations to the crouch movement, You can clearly see the amazing effort Kojima Productions and Konami had put into this game. All of the good details, graphics, and animations all look perfect in the game's cut-scenes.

In The Phantom Pain, there is no longer the "stealth or guns- blazing" decision making. It is Unexplainable of how many ways you can infiltrate, kill, travel, or anything else (So many choices!). It has the most choices of game-play of any game EVER! Even so that I just can't explain it!

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is easily the BEST stealth oriented game to date, and the most game-play choices of any game in existence! Everybody should buy this game when the chance is given!

Hack and slash perfection

Posted : 2 years, 4 months ago on 17 July 2022 12:50 (A review of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance)

A hack and slash Metal gear spinoff is something, that noone couldve expected. Because of its bumpy development it was shifted to Platinum games (Bayonetta, MadWorld) and they did much better job, than stealth action shooter developers couldve ever done.

Surprisingly soundtrack reaches the "Doom 2016" levels of quality more on the rock side and it is one of the best soundtrack implemetation into any medium Ive heard.

I also have to mention, that the game is running on PS3 in 720p/60fps, which was (at that time) very rare for these kind of graphics.

Story - Story is really basic for Metal gear and few characters fall flat, but the villian roster is amazing and the quotes are timeless. Mainly the Senator Armstrong, with his understanding of the "war as a business model" which is very conviniently applied to Pakistan and its pretty relatable to the recent Afghanistan events. The codec is one extremely detailed aspect and has so much lore hidden underneath. I also like, that it continues MGS2 and MGS4 internet society dangers and how easily public is manipulated. The Raidens road to insanity was really good. I have only one complaint. In an extremely well done scene Raiden has to kill a child, to save more children currently choking on gas, but he just returns in a cybernetic body right at the start of the next chapter. It just undermines the entire moment.

Gameplay - Gameplay is like the peak of hack and slash games and the strongest aspect of this game. I loved it. Normally i hate hack and slash games, but this is the best Ive played and I played quite a lot of them. Stealth, even tho not very well done is not forced and was implemented just to be a nod to its roots. The bosses are a great setpiece showcase and a sight to behold. People complained about the exploitable blocking, but its a bs. The actual game requires you to be really precise with the timing.

To wrap it up I enjoyed the game more than I thought I would. I didnt expect much from hack and slash Metal gear, but it turned out the best it couldve.

8.5/10.

An Important Game.

Posted : 2 years, 4 months ago on 17 July 2022 12:23 (A review of NieR: Automata)

The things that this game does have never been done before in a game or, at least, not like this.

In an industry where being by the book is rewarded, NieR manages to be so unapologetically itself that you can't help but fall in love with how unique. It's not just the story, the soundtrack, the gameplay, the art direction - it's everything.

NieR: Automata is one of the most important games of the decade, and that's on period.

Best Action game in years

Posted : 2 years, 4 months ago on 17 July 2022 12:11 (A review of Bayonetta)

I'm not usually one to play action games, more of an rpg fan, but there was something about this title that simply drew me in. Bayonetta isn't just another hottie with weapons, she knows how to use them and this game proves that over and over again.

I'll admit the plot is a bit simplistic. You are a witch who woke up at the bottom of the lake 20 years ago with no memories of your past, all you know is that every once in a while, angels try to send you to hell. Your henchman Enzo has located a rare gem that may clear up events of your past, so you set out on a journey to the island of Vigrid, a place filled with memories.

The cut scenes are over-the-top action-packed, and a little reminiscent of how Dante would roll in Devil May Cry. But Bayonetta actually makes it look good! Still, the best part is naturally the action. Combat has a very smooth flow to it that allows for a high number of combos with which to dispatch your angelic antagonists. Weapons ranging from simple handguns to claws, to swords, and even a whip, Bayonetta should have something in her repertoire for just about anyone. Not to mention, you can attach weapons to either your hands or feet in order to create some very unique combat combinations.

But don't be fooled, this isn't exactly a ride in the park either. The first play-through on normal is probably not that much of a challenge for anyone familiar with the genre, but that doesn't cover the extra content. There are portals to the angel's world all over the place with difficult challenges to complete, two harder difficulty modes, and several out-of-reach secrets that will require dexterity and acumen to discover. Best of all, almost everything you do has some manner of reward attached to it, so be prepared to spend a lot of hours on this.

All in all, I haven't had this much fun beating up things in a long time. The dialog is cheesy, the action is ridiculously bloody, and Bayonetta's boobs are way too huge for a human, but when put together this is a very potent combination. So put down DMC 4, forget about Dante's Inferno, get this game!

A Fantastic Return

Posted : 2 years, 4 months ago on 17 July 2022 12:08 (A review of Metroid Dread)

After 19 long years, Metroid Dread has finally arrived, and it's everything fans of Samus Aran's 2D adventures could have wanted. Excellent controls, phenomenal visuals, and an interesting story combine to make a challenging, but rewarding package. 19 years was a long time to wait, but this title is good enough that it almost makes up for that.
