Though the game has been around for years I've never taken interest in Resident Evil until recently. I got the game for dirt cheap and was surprised how good it is. I saw my cousin play the old Playstation version years ago and was unimpressed but for the Gamecube the graphics have been re-rendered to absolute lifelike perfection. The shadows, the sound, the ambiance and those thunderclaps...all highly, highly realistic. Play this with your Gamecube hooked up to your home theatre. And like me, you'll totally jump out of your skin at the scary parts (many of them).
My main hint is conserve your ammo. If you see a zombie, put it down right away (no funny stuff) and burn it. Take care of them one at a time. And if you don't burn them they will soon come back as Crimson Heads-faster, deadlier, scarier.
Much like the Myst series, Resident Evil is one of those games where you have to keep your eyes and ears open. Clues and puzzle pieces are scattered all over the place and you need to pay attention.
Don't be put off by the size of the mansion. After a short while it's easy to get your bearing and find your way through rather easily. Though I will be honest with the fact I did not understand most of the story. I have no idea what Trevor's diary from 1968 had to do with the plot and I really didn't get why Umbrella would create the T-Virus. I know there are various ways to finish and complete the game though. Especially seeing as how there are many clips during the end credits that did not happen in my game play (I did it in just over 8 hours). If you finish it in certain time frames the next one is always different somehow. I only managed to unlock a new outfit for Chris. Wow!
My only gripe is about those boring 'door opening' cut scenes. They really got on my nerves. Still, it's a chilling game that will freak you out if you play alone in the dark. Well worth the time and money.
Chilling, atmospheric and utterly terrifying!

Best Simpsons game ever
Posted : 2 years, 3 months ago on 15 August 2022 06:31 (A review of The Simpsons: Hit & Run)This game shamelessly rips off the Grand Theft Auto game engine. It works for this game though. Hit and Run has almost every simpsons character. You can only drive with a select few. The game takes around different parts of Springfield doing missions for certain people with different characters.
Marge, Homer, Lisa, Bart, and for some reason Apu are the main characters you can drive as. You can get out of your original car and get into some else's just like in Grand Theft Auto. You can't drive other people's car. They drive you around.
All around Springfield you can find little tie-ins to some of the episodes. As for design Springfield is designed just like I would have imagined it. The story is written by the simpsons writers. Its almost as if you were playing an actual episode.
While your driving around your character will say different things. Just like in Road Rage. While the lines that the character say can get a little repetitive, but they are still funny. Hit and Run is the best simpsons game to date. A sure buy for any fan of the simpsons

Resident Evil review
Posted : 2 years, 3 months ago on 15 August 2022 06:25 (A review of Resident Evil)Warning: Spoilers
In recent years, the 'Resident Evil' ( titled 'Bio Hazard' in Japan ) video games have become nothing short of boring. How hard it is to forget then just how wonderful the games once were in the '90's. The first game was released by Capcom in 1996 for both the Playstation and the Sega Saturn. Sales of the game shot through the roof and was so popular that a year later it was remade as a director's cut version. However, nowadays, with Xbox One and PS4 being the 'in thing', the original game does not get a look in ( a retro gaming magazine even panned it, classing it as 'camp and dated' ), which is a terrible shame as in my view it is still a joy to play, despite its dated graphics and bad acting.
The two playable characters in the game are machine expert Jill Valentine and marksman Chris Redfield, both of which serve as part of Alpha Team of S. T. A. R. S ( Special Tactics and Rescue Squad ) police force based in the fictional American town of Raccoon City and are sent out along with Captain Albert Wesker, Rebecca Chambers ( Bravo Team's First-Aider ) weapons specialist Barry Burton to the Arklay Mountains to investigate a series of cannibalistic attacks. Upon arriving in the area the team are almost attacked by a pack of fierce dog-like creatures and are left stranded when their pilot Brad Vickers loses his nerve and flies off in the chopper. Eventually, the remaining members seek refuge in a nearby mansion, which they soon discover is no ordinary mansion. It transpires that the house was used by Umbrella Corporation ( a large biomedical company ) to conduct a series of illegal experiments. One such experiment, the Tyrant Virus, was exposed in the underground lab and affected all of Umbrella's researchers and security guards. Anyone who is affected by the virus turns into a flesh eating zombie.
I don't want to say too much else about the game as that would spoil it for those who have not yet got around to playing it. The moral of the game is the player must battle their way through a series of dangerous creatures, baffling puzzles and deadly booby traps in order to make it out alive. A number of minor characters include Richard Aiken ( who died after being bitten by Yawn, a huge poisonous snake ), Joseph Frost ( who was eaten alive by the dogs who the team encountered before reaching the mansion ), Forest Speyer ( who was pecked to death by aggressive crows ), Kenneth J. Sullivan ( who is killed at the start after being eaten by a zombie ) and Enrico Marini, who after informing the player that there is a traitor among them, is shot dead by an unseen assailant. Boss-like creatures include the aforementioned Yawn, Plant-42 ( a plant that has been transformed into a deadly monster ), Neptune ( a deadly shark ), the Black Tiger ( a gigantic venomous spider ) and Tyrant ( the life form of the T-Virus who the player must defeat at the end of the game ).
The game-play itself is something to enjoy a lot however the voice acting is comical. For instance, if playing Jill, at one point in the game she is almost crushed by a descending ceiling and is saved from certain death by Barry.
JILL: Thank you for saving my life, Barry!
BARRY: Don't mention it, that was too close! You were almost a 'Jill' sandwich!
If playing Chris, there is a hilarious scene where Chris narrowly survives a battle with Plant-42, much to the amazement of his partner Rebecca.
REBECCA: You're alive!
CHRIS: Yeah! So much for him, we got to the 'root' of the problem!
A few other vocal anomalies are scattered about, such as when Jill finds Chris locked in a cell in the underground lab : ''I'll come back and rescue you later, will you wait here?''. What the hell does she think he will do? Burrow his way out underground? The acting aside, the thrill-packed game-play and suspense factor more than makes up for this shortcoming and is highly recommended to anyone who loves a gory shoot-em-up.
In 1998, the sequel 'Resident Evil 2' was released and did just as well commercially as the first. In 2002, a remake of the original was made for the Nintendo Gamecube console. The remake featured new dialogue and puzzles, as well as more defined graphics and improved voice acting. That same year, a film was made of 'Resident Evil' which led onto a number of follow-ups. Many adaptations of 'Resident Evil' may have came and went over the years but in my opinion the original remains the best.

Best Pixar movie to date!
Posted : 2 years, 3 months ago on 15 August 2022 05:28 (A review of Toy Story (1995))Toy Story is just a wonderful film, that I recommend to anyone who loves animation. I will also say that it is definitely the best Pixar movie to date, all of which are extremely good, even the weaker efforts Cars and the Incredibles are well worth watching. I loved the voice talents, the talented Tom Hanks is perfect as Woody, and Tim Allen likewise as Buzz. Both characters are hugely engaging thanks to their frequent conflicts, and are well supported by excellent supporting characters like Potato Head, Rex, Ham and Little Bo Beep, voiced by the likes of Don Rickles, Jim Varney, John Ratzenberger and Annie Potts. Not to mention the hilarious toy aliens, and the creepy kid Sid. The voice talents aren't the only things worth mentioning, the film has a remarkable story and a truly irreverent script ("I'm from Mattel, actually I'm from a smaller company that was purchased by Mattel in a leveraged buyout"). But the best aspect of the movie is the phenomenal animation, which was colourful and sophisticated with brilliant character movement. Honestly, I loved this movie, and I also thought the sequel is one of the few sequels of recent times, that actually manages to surpass its predecessor. All in all, a wonderful film, that is a must-see for the whole family. 10/10 Bethany Cox.

A true scream of a horror classic
Posted : 2 years, 3 months ago on 15 August 2022 05:25 (A review of Scream (1996))What can I say? Scream is a wonderful film, a classic of its genre and a real scream from start to finish. The production values are excellent with atmospheric photography and settings, Wes Craven's direction is to date one of his best directing jobs, the music is haunting and the sound effects unsettling. The acting from Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox and David Arquette is top notch, and GhostFace as a character is iconic. What struck me as truly impressive about Scream was its originality, the story is fresh and while there are some funny lines, there are some genuinely scary, jump-out-of-your-seat moments too. Overall, brilliant. 10/10 Bethany Cox

Never Gets Old!
Posted : 2 years, 3 months ago on 15 August 2022 04:26 (A review of Dead by Daylight)Dead by daylight is a game where you find five generators that you must fix in order to escape but you have to do these tasks with someone who's trying to kill you! You can play as killer and upgrade them aswell as survivors. This game may sound repetitive but what makes it not is because there are different maps, killers and skill levels of each killer you come up against so it can really become a challenge for killers and survivors.
Once you are on a hook slowly dying waiting for a fellow survivor helps you out there is one small complication.. camping and tunneling. Killers not leaving the final generator! Killers not leaving your mate that is on a hook. This can be quite frustrating but what helps prevent this is that if you camp the other survivors have bought time to finish generators to escape but that can't always fix the problem because some people are obsessed with getting a single kill.
Some killers may be hot garbage, some killers may be decent and some may be overpowered and frustratingly unfair! I do think survivors deserve more of an advantage but you learn to get around it and improve. Match making can take a reasonable amount of time when your a survivor but when your a killer it sometimes takes up to 10 minutes!
Overall I really love this game! There are a few annoying features that need to be patched but they're not too much of a game changer and I strongly recommend playing this game with your friends because it is so much fun!

Great Game For The NES
Posted : 2 years, 3 months ago on 15 August 2022 02:53 (A review of A Nightmare on Elm Street)Rated E(Contains Violence)
Nightmare On Elm Street is an NES game based on the popular horror film series. This and the Friday the 13th game were both released on the same year and both were based on popular horror films. However Nightmare On Elm Street is miles ahead of Friday the 13th.Friday the 13th had bad graphics. Some of it was cool for its time like how you can drive boats and how enemies just pop up but after playing both Nightmare On Elm Street is definitely the better video game. The graphics are way better compared to Friday the 13th.The graphics are actually pretty good for the NES.The gameplay is fun and the story is interesting. You must go through haunted houses finding Freddy Krugers bones while battling Freddy and his minions. His minions are bats and other small creatures and you kill them by throwing rocks at them. After some time you will have to battle Freddy in his many different and interesting forms. My only problem with this game is you cant save and unless you play the game for a really long time you will never beat it.Anyway Nightmare On Elm Street is a fun and classic NES game.
8/10

This is a MUST for fans...
Posted : 2 years, 3 months ago on 15 August 2022 02:48 (A review of Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th)Being a long time fan of "Friday the 13th" and, well of course, Jason Voorhees, I was thrilled to sit down to watch this documentary, although I had no idea about the length of the feature. It was a pleasant surprise that it ran for just about 400 minutes, because this was just cramped with goodies and inside information crucial and long sought by the hardcore fans of the franchise.
I am not going to go into detail here about every single installment, but you have one for each of the movies and for the TV series as well. Each is done with a lot of care, determination and touch of details. And it was a real treat to sit through the entire franchise from the very first movie up to the reboot in 2009.
We all have our own individual favorites in the franchise, being it complete movie, singular moment, kill scene, and what not. And "Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th" does get around just about everything crucial to each movie.
"Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th" is a definite MUST own and watch for everyone who enjoys the "Friday the 13th" franchise.

Excellent TV horror series
Posted : 2 years, 3 months ago on 15 August 2022 02:41 (A review of Friday the 13th: The Series)When I first heard the name of this series back in 1987 I refused to see it. I assumed it was just about Jason killing different people every week--but with no gore (since this WAS TV). What was the point? But I tuned in one night out of curiosity and was surprised how different it was from the movies--and how much I liked it! It was about some antique owners who have to track down antiques each week that had been sold from their store. It seems their uncle (the previous owner) had made a pact with the Devil and the antiques were cursed. Sounds silly but it really worked. There were some doses of pretty funny humor but this show concentrated on the horror. Also it was pretty gory for a TV show at that time--my station didn't show it till 11:30 at night! The acting was good...but it all started to fall apart after season 2. The main actor left and was replaced by someone who just wasn't as good--the third season was a major disappointment. I think that's what killed the show. Still it was a fun, sometimes scary and a little gory TV show. Recommended.

Genuinely creepy video game. Not for children!
Posted : 2 years, 3 months ago on 15 August 2022 02:38 (A review of Friday the 13th)A classic spooky video game for everyone! A game that has managed to scare many generations of video game players.
I can perfectly remember how shocking this game was when first released. Everyone was talking about it because it was "very scary!". The curious fact is that many avid players of the game didn't even know about the existence of the "Friday the 13th movies". As a die hard fan of the movies I immediately bought this dirty little gem.
The plot is a mix of the movies from part 1 to seven, completely ignoring "Jason Takes Manhattan". There are specially many scenes from the first three movies. Your principal objective is to save the Camp Crystal Lake kids from Jason. If you enter the cabins when he's about to attack them, you will face him and try to kill him. Not the Jason we know in the movies! but still scary enough.
The plot and graphics are surprisingly the less thing you should care about this video game. The real best thing about the game is the creepy/scary factor. No kidding. This game had creepy music, atmosphere, settings, plot, etc. Not to mention that Jason makes frightening surprise appearances! Then, when you face Jason's mother it's also very creepy.
Please, do yourself a favor and FIND this video game. It's probably scarier than many 2000's Horror movies. If you can beat this game, you are truly a Camp Blood survivor!
