1. Albert Wesker

Posted : 2 years, 4 months ago on 6 July 2022 08:38 (A review of Albert Wesker)

First appearance:Ā Resident Evil (1996)

Iā€™d love to be a hipster and tell you some obscure villain like Morpheus D. Duvall from RE: Dead Aim (2003) is the best in the series, but we all know itā€™s Albert Wesker.

This evil genius was the face of Resident Evil villainy from the seriesā€™ inception in 1996.

With great intelligence and superhuman abilities, Wesker was a fearsome force driving viral and parasitical disasters worldwide.

It took throwing Wesker in a volcano and shooting him with an RPG to finally take him down ā€“ a warriorā€™s death for one of the most hardcore villains in gaming.

4. Chris Redfield

Posted : 2 years, 4 months ago on 6 July 2022 08:35 (A review of Chris Redfield)

First appearance:Ā Resident Evil (1996)

Much like the zombies heā€™s so good at neutralizing, Chris just keeps coming back ā€“ over and over.

After the nightmare at the Spencer Mansion, Chris has dedicated his life to fighting Bio Organic Weapons as a member of the BSAA.

Wherever zombies get up from their graves, Chris will be there to punch them back into the ground.

And I mean that literally.

While his recent dark and grizzled look from Resident Evil Village is pretty damn cool, my favorite Chris will always be the muscular Pillar Man from RE5.

I mean, the dude can punch volcanic rock boulders into submission!

7. HUNK

Posted : 2 years, 4 months ago on 6 July 2022 08:28 (A review of Hunk)

First appearance:Ā Resident Evil 2 (1998)

HUNK is as mysterious as he is cool.

This one-man-army works for the Umbrella Security Service.

He was first introduced as a playable character in The 4th Survivor ā€“ a specially challenging mode in RE2 where you had limited resources.

Well, HUNK doesnā€™t need resources.

Heā€™s cold, calculating, and ruthlessly efficient when it comes to killing ā€“ zombie or not.

After the Raccoon City incident, he even invented his own fighting style to deal with infected in an outbreak situation.

If I had to guess, it includes a couple ofĀ [Link removed - login to see].

8. Barry Burton

Posted : 2 years, 4 months ago on 6 July 2022 08:26 (A review of Barry Burton)

First appearance:Ā Resident Evil (1996)

The measure of a man is what he does with power.

And in Barryā€™s case, itā€™s what he does with a .44 Magnum.

This often-overlooked character was the calm cornerstone of the STARS Alpha Team.

He was in charge of weapon supervision and coming up with witty jokes like theĀ [Link removed - login to see].

Heā€™s one of the nicest guys in the entire series without that hampering his ability to blow up zombie skulls left and right.

After this traumatic experience, Barry has done everything in his power to be a good family man ā€“ including fighting to protect them from bio-terrorism as part of the BSAA.

9. Rebecca Chambers

Posted : 2 years, 4 months ago on 6 July 2022 08:23 (A review of Rebecca Chambers)

First appearance:Ā Resident Evil (1996)

Some characters are interesting, others are bad-ass ā€“ and Rebecca?

Sheā€™s just plain adorable.

This medic is an unlikely survivor from the STARS Bravo Team, who had to brave the horrors of the Arklay Mountains way before Chris and Jill set foot in the mansion.

Despite her painfully cute & almost child-like appearance, this medic proved to be one of the most resourceful charactersĀ in the series.

Her smarts definitely served her right during her stay at the Spencer Mansion, and she went on to become a leading researcher in viral outbreak counter-measures.

If Resident Evil was an RPG, sheā€™d be the healer.

11. Ethan Winters

Posted : 2 years, 4 months ago on 6 July 2022 08:18 (A review of Ethan Winters)

First appearance:Ā Resident Evil 7 (2017)

Fans of long-lived series like Resident Evil have a tendency to write off new characters without giving them a chance.

But Ethan Winters has earned a place on this list with grit and clenched teeth.

Despite having no trainingĀ whatsoever, Ethan manages to drive the Baker family back and becomes instrumental in controlling the viral-enhanced mold outbreak in the bayou.

Hell, he even gets his hand sawed off only to put it back together with some chewing gum and duct tape minutes later.

Wait, what?

Go play Resident Evil Village if you want to know how he pulled that feat off.

Zombie Western

Posted : 2 years, 4 months ago on 6 July 2022 05:38 (A review of Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare)

In a twist on the main game, Red Dead Redemption, this alternate game is literally a nightmare. You're still in the old west, but the story mode is about zombies. If you're a horror fanatic and love zombies, then you'll love this game. It definitely is a whole new genre, as well as intense.

This expansion game does not need the base game to be playable, which is great if you don't already own Red Dead Redemption. Story mode for Undead Nightmare lasts roughly around six hours, not near as long as the base game. It is however like the base game, an open world and the player can diverge from the story and do side missions as well.

The enemies and animals you encounter are also plagued with zombieness, and are somewhat more aggressive than the enemies of the base game. The game play is similar to that of the Left for Dead series of games, or The Walking Dead games. Unlike the base game though, fast travel is removed, and three new creatures are added; a unicorn, sasquatch and El chupacabra.

Kratos finally arrives on the PS3!

Posted : 2 years, 4 months ago on 6 July 2022 05:19 (A review of God of War III)

Yes, we all thought that Kratos would be arriving on the PS3 a bit earlier, with God of War II. However, instead he was once again on the PS2 system. So, the third game comes out and of course it is on the PS3...and it is a bit of a letdown as I found the two games on PS2 more satisfying than this one. Do not get me wrong, I enjoyed this one a lot, but at the same time it just did not feel as large an adventure as the previous two games. It just seems to be on a smaller scale as it did not seem as long, there did not seem to be as many locales and the battles just did not feel as spectacular as before. The graphics are impressive as the PS3 was an impressive piece of hardware. Kratos has never looked more alive...unfortunately, as I said as good as it played out it just felt more underwhelming than before.

The story picks up where the second game left off. Kratos rides Gaia to the top of Mt. Olympus in the hopes of settling things with his father once and for all. All the gods join with Zeus in defending Mt. Olympus and it is not too long after this one opens that Kratos is once again back in Hades. Of course, not before putting a major beat down on Poseidon. Well, Kratos must navigate the underworld and soon learns of Pandora and a weapon that has the power to destroy a god, even Zeus. So Kratos must navigate a maze that is very reminiscent of the one found in the horror/science fiction film Cube and will soon have his showdown with Zeus, again.

The game play is essentially the same as the previous two games as Kratos fights with his standard chain weapons and will pick up more weapons along the way. He will also pick up other items and abilities as he progresses through the game. I died frequently on jumps, not sure if this was due to bad controls or a bad controller though. Something was just off with the double jump so I spent a lot of time falling to my death. Still, it was nice that the combat was the same as the game is easy to pick up and play if you have played the earlier games. I had heard it was different in the demo and a lot of people complained, but not sure if the controls were changed due to this or not.

So, this journey of Kratos was good, but just did not feel quite as grand as his first two journeys. Perhaps having the exact same antagonist made the game have its been there done that feel. Perhaps it is the lack of places for Kratos to explore as it is pretty much Mt. Olympus and Hades and going up and down a shaft (this was especially tiresome. Whatever the reason, this one just was a good game and not a great game. I won it in under ten hours and again, it felt very rushed. Not sure if there will be a game that happens after this one as the ending did not really end on a cliffhanger like the last game. I know there was a prequel last year, but I am not a fan of prequels. A good game, but a lack of certain things made Kratos' first journey onto the PS3 less memorable than it should have been.

Great game that includes great characters, character development, impressive graphics, great variety values
